Knesset Profile: Ibrahim Sarsur
Ibrahim Sarsur was born in Kfar Qassem in 1959, and began his political career as a member of the city's local council.
Sarsur became head of the southern faction of Israel's Islamic Movement in 1999. When his party, the United Arab List, merged with Ta'al for the 2006 Knesset elections, Sarsur was elected head of the new party, and it gained 4 seats.
Sarsur is heavily involved in encouraging Palestinian citizens of Israel to exercise their right to vote in Parliamentary elections, arguing that exercising that right is much more productive that boycotting a discriminatory political system.
