Palestinians mark 61st anniversary of the Nakba

Palestinians have marked the occasion of the 1948 "catastrophe", or Nakba, when they fled their homes in the face of the establishment of Israel in 1948. Al Jazeera>'s Ayman Mohyeldin reports from Gaza, where this year's commemorations have been overshadowed by the more recent destruction wrought by Israel's war on the tiny coastal territory.

Israel plans to consolidate hold on Jerusalem with parks

The Israeli government has a secret plan to surround the Old City of Jerusalem with parks, tourist attractions and hiking trails in a bid to consolidate its occupation of area, which began in June of 1967. The organization Ir Amim (City of Nations), dedicated to promoting coexistence in Jerusalem, released a report on the plan on Sunday, on the eve of the Pope's visit to the city.

UN urges Israel to tackle Palestinian housing crisis in East Jerusalem

Palestinians living in East Jerusalem continue to receive demolition orders against their homes and face ongoing land confiscation by Israeli authorities, exacerbating a housing crisis that continues to grow over forty years after Israeli illegally occupied the city's eastern sector in 1967.
