On Wednesday the Israeli army invaded the Abu Dis Secondary Boy's School in suburban Jerusalem between Bethlehem and Ramallah and attacked a number of children. Israeli soldiers burst into classroom after classroom, pushed the teachers out of the way, and beat several students. Some of the kids hid under their chairs while others protected themselves with their school bags.

There were serious injuries with at least six children suffering broken hands. The kids were trying to protect themselves from being beaten with soldiers' batons by covering their heads with their hands.

Today the Israeli Embassy is sending letters to people who wrote to them to say that they don't know anything about the attack on the school nothing has been published in the Israeli press, they say, and there has been no complaint to the Israeli government.

Regardless of the official Israeli position, the attack was reported to the Israeli Human Rights Centre in Jerusalem and statements have been taken from many people involved. The Camden Abu Dis Friendship Association is calling or an inquiry.

The Camden Abu Dis Friendship Association, based in London, is building friendship links between the London borough of Camden and Abu Dis in order to help people in London understand the human situation in Palestine. CADFA develops projects with people in Abu Dis such as the Dar Assadaqa where several courses are offered, a volunteer program is coordinated, and money is currently being raised to hire a music teacher in the Abu Dis school.

However CADFA's real aim is to promote human rights and increase understanding among the citizens of London of the Palestinian situation.
